Surface roughness shapes light: new photopolarimetric insights from regolith analogues
Jun 2025

For the first time, we've performed light-scattering measurements on solid surfaces at the CODULAB laboratory (IAA-CSIC).
We investigated how surface roughness in Mars regolith simulants affects the elements of the Mueller scattering matrix.
Our results reveal clear trends linking roughness to polarization and albedo, with important implications for interpreting light from asteroids and comets.
Discover how surface texture shapes the way light is scattered.
